The stadium was one of the venues for the Rugby World Cup held for the first time in Asia in 2019. Fiji and Uruguay played a match in the stadium, only one newly built among the 15 stadiums used for the event. It had the fewest seats. It was a special place where all the children under the school’s control evacuated and survived the Great East Japan Earthquake. The stadium stands where Kamaishi Higashi Junior High School and Uosumai Elementary School stood before the earthquake.
